Stopping to smell the jasmine

Silk painting containing text from my poem “Jasmine”

This poem is deceptively light. It is a moment of pause, written at a time when I was mired in the incessant tasks of changing diapers, feeding, and cleaning up after young children. I do believe in stopping to smell the roses, or the jasmine…

Jasmine

Laundry piling

need groceries

but birds

and sun

and scent

of jasmine

are too alluring
