Feeding Souls

Owls in mythology are messengers and represent wisdom. It is awe inspiring to encounter them both in waking life and in dreams.

A very persistent owl showed up in a recent dream… in this dream I was trying to leave a place full of empty people and began to type a message for help. As I began the message, an owl swooped down onto my hand, stopping my progress. I shook it off. As I began to type again, it pinched my finger with its beak, again stopping my progress.

One more time I tried to type, this time the owl bit hard and would not let go. It required me to stay and to pay attention. This dream became the poem below, about the role of poets, and really, artists of all kinds- performing artists, visual artists, writers-this poem is dedicated to you.
